How it all got started

In 1960 the Rivard brothers, Lloyd, Leland, Earl, Myles and Kenneth pooled their finances together to start their own business enterprise along the St Croix River in Taylors Falls Minnesota. The business had several different entities, which included hardware, groceries, dairy, a gas station and oil delivery, and a sporting goods store. Each entity was run by a different brother under the corporate umbrella of Rivards of Taylors Falls, Inc.  The brothers also owned Val Croix Ski Resort which is currently known as Wild Mountain in MN.
The Rivard Corporation served the public for over thirty years. In 1986,
Todd Angel purchased the Rivard Sporting Goods business from Lloyd and Mary Rivard. On April 5, 1986, Todd Angel, now the sole owner, opened the NEW Rivards Sporting Goods, with only six guns, three bows, one employee and Todd’s Mom, LuElla Angel. In 1993, Todd and his wife Terri Angel purchased property in St Croix Falls Wisconsin on US Hwy 8 and the corner of Co Rd Y. After sufficient water was achieved, ground was broken in October 1995. On January 21, 1996, Rivards Sporting Goods re-opened doing business as St Croix Outdoors. Since then St Croix Outdoors has done two additions, houses 700-800 firearms, 150-200 bows, over 500 rods and reels, an indoor shooting tunnel and sports 40 yard indoor archery range.

Whether it be law enforcement officers, fire prevention personnel, handicapped, non-profit organizations or the general public, St Croix Outdoors strives to be the most dependable sporting goods retailer in the surrounding area. Our goal is not just to generate a profit but also to make a lasting impact on the environment and our beloved natural resources that we so highly respect.
